Saint Joseph and the child Jesus

On May 1, we celebrate the feast of Saint Joseph which aptly coincided with Labor day here in the Philippines. This is the lifesize image of Saint Joseph that is brought out and decorated for the Novena in the parish of Saint Peter, Apalit, Pampanga, Philippines.
As a child I have always admired this image especially the cute diminutive tool box that the child Jesus holds. It has all this itty-bitty saw, hammer, rulers and other tools. Looking at his foster dad with so much love, Jesus seems to tell him that He wants to be just like his father when He grows up. Of course He did become a carpenter for a time that is before He responded to the call of His Heavenly Father. Jesus is the epitome of an obedient child.
This image of Saint Joseph and Jesus have instilled in me the need to be a good child to my parents as well. To follow as best as I possibly can their teachings, to love and care for them in the same way that they have loved and cared for me. I feel blessed that just like Jesus, I have been given very wonderful representations of God in my sojourn on earth...my parents.
